Service Description

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic and physically demanding style of yoga that follows a specific sequence of postures, linking breath with movement in a continuous and flowing manner. This style was popularized by K. Pattabhi Jois and is often referred to as the "Eight-Limbed Yoga," based on the foundational principles outlined in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. Key features of Ashtanga Yoga include: Vinyasa: Ashtanga is characterized by its emphasis on vinyasa, which refers to the synchronization of breath with movement. Each movement is linked to an inhale or exhale, creating a seamless flow from one pose to the next. Tristhana: The practice involves three key elements known as tristhana, which include breath control (pranayama), posture (asana), and focal points (dristhi). These components work together to enhance concentration and internal focus. Asana Sequence: Ashtanga Yoga follows a set sequence of poses organized into different series, including the Primary Series (Yoga Chikitsa), Intermediate Series (Nadi Shodhana), and Advanced Series (Sthira Bhaga). Students progress through these series as they gain proficiency and mastery in each. Mysore Style: Ashtanga classes are often taught in a "Mysore style" format, where students practice independently at their own pace, with the teacher providing individualized guidance and adjustments. This allows practitioners to develop a self-guided practice over time. Focus on Strength and Flexibility: The practice aims to build strength, flexibility, and endurance. Ashtanga Yoga is known for its physically challenging nature, and consistent practice is believed to purify the body and calm the mind. Daily Practice: Traditionally, Ashtanga Yoga is practiced six days a week, with a break on Saturdays and moon days. The regularity of the practice is considered essential for reaping its full benefits. Ashtanga Yoga can be intense and is well-suited for individuals seeking a structured and disciplined approach to yoga. It is important for practitioners, especially beginners, to approach the practice with patience and respect for their own body, gradually progressing through the series under the guidance of an experienced teacher.
